We Put a Tax on Everything ~ Even Porn!

Filed under: Uncategorized — by NicoleR @ 3:59 pm

An article published on April 9th discusses the bill proposed by Jim Matheson to levy a 25% tax on Internet pornography transactions.

Matheson argues that it will create a new Internet safety and child protection trust fund.  The revenues would most likely be about $3billion a year.  This money could be used to increase law enforcement, and increased blocking and filtering on the Internet to increase the safety of children who use the Internet.

The Article Is: MATHESON PUSHING NET PORN-TAX ACT

I think that this is a great idea.  We get taxed on everything else in New York from cars to real estate to clothing.  Porn is something that we should be taxed for.  It is not something that is a necessity to live and therefore if people have the money and the desire to purchase pornography, they should absolutely be giving a donation to the safety of children in society.

The consumers of pornography are the ones that have made the industry as big as it is today.  They are partially the ones who are responsible for how big the industry is today and how accessible different sites and things are to young children.  I would think that they would be more than happy to throw a few dollars towards keeping our future generations safe from seeing things that they should not have to.
